Why Should She?

It astounded me to find out that even though my blog has been active since the 1st of April, my wife has yet to follow it, nay, she has not even the decency to read it.

And, I suppose, why should she?

She should because this blog business is serious stuff. I might write down clues pertaining to things going on in my life that I, as a male, am not capable of sharing by way of the spoken word. I might share my "feelings" or connect with my inner child! This blog might just be the "holy grail" of marital communication she's been desperately seeking since the day we wed!

In the stillness of the evening she, she often turns to me and asks "What are you thinking?" - but truth be told, she'd know exactly what i was thinking if she'd only read the stupid blog! And as for not talking... what is she thinking?

She's going to read this and I'm going to have to make my own supper and sleep on the couch.

But at least she'll read this.

5 Top Movie Theme Songs of All Time

I don't know if "Theme Song" is the best way to describe the main song for a movie, but it works for the purposes of this post...

I was doing some website design today and browsed YouTube to listen to some music. I decided to find as many theme songs as I could - and to use them as my background music.

So I got to thinking, what are the best movie theme songs of all time? I'm not sure, but in my opinion, the list would have to include the following (in no particular order):

  • The Gael - Last of the Mohicans Theme (Dougie Maclean)
This song is awesome - it builds and builds and delivers a great climax.
  • Superman (John Williams)
I can't imagine a better song than this one for Superman. It fits on every level.
  • Gettysburg (Randy Edelman )
I could put on the Gettysburg DVD and just let the menu play and play - the song is flat out awesome. It sets up the epic battle very well, and makes the viewer aware of the significance of Gettysburg. The video I linked to includes footage from Band of Brothers - a World War II documentary. I think creator of the video did a great job blending the two together.
  • Dances with Wolves (John Barry)
If you have a good 8 minutes to spend listening to a song - this is a good one. The french horn, an intrument I played in high school is awesome! I have this on my iPod, between Metallica's "Enter Sandman" and Ozzy's "Mamma I'm Coming Home".
  • Star Wars (John Williams)
I hear this song and I can visualize the entire 1st movie, start to finish. The explosive opening announces one of the greatest movies of all time.

So - those are my top 5. But what order? In my rather humble opinion, I'd have to say:

5. Dances With Wolves
4. Starwars
3. The Geal
2. Superman
1. Gettysburg

Take a listen to them and tell me what you think. Or did I miss a great song?

Good Morning and Good Luck

It's Friday, April 17th, 2009 and this is my first post.

This isn't my first blog - I have tons of blogs. You can't see them, 'cause i won't let you. But they are there.

I've started blogs about politics, faith, cooking and just about everything else. But I get so busy I normally stop after about 3 blog entries.

So, will this be different? I doubt it.

What's this Steve DeVries blog about?

Me! Hahaha. No seriously, it's not about me, its about things I find of interest that maybe you will too. Funny things, serious things, spiritual things and stupid things.

If you disagree with anything I write, or find something that you believe is factually inaccurate, I'd love to hear from you. If you swear or insult, don't bother commenting. That being said, I love to debate. So bring on the disagreements!

Not everything on this post will be argumentative. Not everyting on this post will be spelled correctly. I tend to, over, use, commas. I have the IQ of an well trained monkey and my life's ambition is to win the Nobel prize and sell it on eBay.

Enough of this...

So... Lets get it on.
