I was doing some website design today and browsed YouTube to listen to some music. I decided to find as many theme songs as I could - and to use them as my background music.
So I got to thinking, what are the best movie theme songs of all time? I'm not sure, but in my opinion, the list would have to include the following (in no particular order):
- The Gael - Last of the Mohicans Theme (Dougie Maclean)
This song is awesome - it builds and builds and delivers a great climax. - Superman (John Williams)
I can't imagine a better song than this one for Superman. It fits on every level. - Gettysburg (Randy Edelman )
I could put on the Gettysburg DVD and just let the menu play and play - the song is flat out awesome. It sets up the epic battle very well, and makes the viewer aware of the significance of Gettysburg. The video I linked to includes footage from Band of Brothers - a World War II documentary. I think creator of the video did a great job blending the two together. - Dances with Wolves (John Barry)
If you have a good 8 minutes to spend listening to a song - this is a good one. The french horn, an intrument I played in high school is awesome! I have this on my iPod, between Metallica's "Enter Sandman" and Ozzy's "Mamma I'm Coming Home". - Star Wars (John Williams)
I hear this song and I can visualize the entire 1st movie, start to finish. The explosive opening announces one of the greatest movies of all time.
So - those are my top 5. But what order? In my rather humble opinion, I'd have to say:
5. Dances With Wolves
4. Starwars
3. The Geal
2. Superman
1. Gettysburg
Take a listen to them and tell me what you think. Or did I miss a great song?
